Garden Room Builders in High Wycombe

We design and build garden rooms in High Wycombe, from Amersham Hill and Terriers to Totteridge, Downley, Booker and Sands.

With the M40 and the Chiltern line close by, plenty of people here split the week between the office and home. A garden office gives you a proper place to work without giving up a bedroom.

Our fully insulated garden rooms suit a home gym or home studio just as well, and we build sheds and outside storage for the rest of the garden.

Wycombe grew up as a chair-making town, and Victorian terraces still line many of the older streets. Their narrow gardens suit a compact garden room with a flat roof, set back from the neighbours.

High Wycombe’s conservation areas include Amersham Hill, Priory Avenue, Terriers, Totteridge and Downley Common, where the council favours brick walls and hedges at the front of houses.

What Our Customers Say

  • Placeholder review. A real Google review from a FirstScapes customer appears here once the Google connection is set up. Most reviews run to two or three sentences, about this long.

  • Placeholder review. Google shares up to five reviews and the page shows three. Longer reviews are cut off after eight lines with the full text on Google, so the cards stay a tidy height even when a customer writes a lot about their new garden, the team and how the job went from start to finish.

What Will You Use Your Garden Room For?

A new garden room gives you extra space without moving house or building an extension. Here are the ways our customers use theirs.

  • Home office

A short walk down the garden puts a door between work and home. A garden office gives you a quiet place for calls and a desk you can leave set up, with power, lighting and room to think.

  • Home gym

Space for a rack, a bike or a mat, without giving up a spare room. A solid, level base carries the weight of heavy kit, and big glazed doors bring in light and air.

  • Home studio

A home studio for painting, music, pottery or teaching, where you can make noise or mess and close the door on it at the end of the day.

  • Home bar

A garden bar to host friends in, opening onto a patio or deck, so the evening moves between inside and out.

  • Hobby room

A hobby room for games, reading, crafts or a den for the children. Somewhere of your own that keeps the house clear.

  • Garden storage and sheds

Not every garden building needs to be a room. We build sheds and outside storage for bikes, tools, bins and garden furniture, sized to fit and built to stay dry.

Design and build

Design and Build Garden Rooms

We handle the whole project, from the first drawing to the path that leads to the door, so you deal with one team from start to finish.

  1. Visit and designWe look at the garden and talk through how you will use the room. We build it to your exact specification and how you plan to use it, and our experience means we can help guide the design.
  2. The baseA level, solid base that stays dry and will not shift, so the doors and windows keep opening freely.
  3. Fully insulatedInsulated floor, walls and roof, with double-glazed doors, so the room is warm in winter and stays comfortable in summer.
  4. Power and lightingWe fit the electrics too: sockets, lighting and heating, so the room is ready to use the day we finish.
  5. The outdoor space around itPaths, decking, patios and planting, so the room sits in the garden rather than on it.

FAQ

Garden Room Questions from High Wycombe

Can you build a garden room on a sloping High Wycombe garden?

Yes. Many gardens climb the valley side, so we level the ground first and build the base to suit the slope, with steps or a path up to the door.

Do High Wycombe’s conservation areas affect garden rooms?

In conservation areas such as Amersham Hill and Totteridge, a garden room to the side of the house needs planning permission. One in the back garden is usually fine, but we check before we build.

Do you build garden rooms in the villages around High Wycombe?

Yes. As well as High Wycombe itself, we cover Booker, Bowerdean, Castlefield, Cressex, Daws Hill, Micklefield, Sands, Terriers, Totteridge and Downley, and the rest of the HP11, HP12 and HP13 postcode areas.

How long does it take to build a garden room in High Wycombe?

It depends on the size of the room, what goes inside it and whether we are building paths, decking or a patio around it. Once we have measured up, your quote includes a timescale, so you know how long we will be on site before we start.

Do I need planning permission for a garden room?

Usually not. Most garden rooms count as permitted development if they are single storey, no higher than 2.5 metres within 2 metres of a boundary, not in front of the house, not covering more than half the garden and not used as a bedroom. The rules are tighter for listed buildings, in conservation areas and in the Chilterns National Landscape. We check this before we start.

Does a garden room need building regulations approval?

Usually not, as long as nobody sleeps in it. Under 15 square metres it is normally exempt. Between 15 and 30 square metres it is normally exempt if it is at least 1 metre from the boundary or built mostly from non-combustible materials. Electrical work must still meet the regulations.

Can I use a garden room all year round?

Yes. With insulation in the floor, walls and roof, double-glazed doors and heating, a fully insulated garden room stays warm in winter, so a home office or gym works in every season.

Do you build sheds and garden storage too?

Yes. As well as garden rooms, we build sheds and outside storage for bikes, tools, bins and furniture, sized to fit your garden. See garden storage above.

How much does a new garden room cost in High Wycombe?

It depends on the size, the finish and what goes inside, such as power, lighting and heating. We need to see the garden before we can give you a price, so we offer a free, no-obligation quote. Call 01494 812249 or use the form at the top of the page.
