Garden Lighting and Electrics Across Buckinghamshire

FirstScapes is a family-run landscaping company. We design and install garden lighting across Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns, from a few path lights to a full lighting scheme for the whole garden.

Because we build gardens, we plan the lighting with the paving, decking and planting, and lay the cables before they go in. The electrical installation is carried out by qualified electricians, so your garden electrics are safe as well as good looking.

We fit path and step lighting, feature lighting, decking and patio lighting, security and sensor lighting, outdoor sockets and smart controls, and run power to garden rooms and outbuildings.

What Our Customers Say

  • Placeholder review. A real Google review from a FirstScapes customer appears here once the Google connection is set up. Most reviews run to two or three sentences, about this long.

Longer reviews are cut off after eight lines with the full text on Google, so the cards stay a tidy height even when a customer writes a lot about their new garden, the team and how the job went from start to finish.

Lighting

Garden Lighting and Electrics

New garden lighting lets you use the garden long after sunset, and makes it look beautiful from inside the house. Most schemes mix a few of these.

  • Path and step lighting

Low lights along a path and small lights set into steps or walls show the way and the edges, so you can walk the garden safely at night without glare.

  • Feature lighting

Uplights at the foot of a tree, a wall washer across brickwork or a spotlight on a sculpture pick out the best parts of the garden after dark.

  • Decking and patio lighting

Deck lights, step lights and soft wall lights around a patio or deck make the seating area warm and inviting, with the light kept low and out of your eyes.

  • Security and sensor lighting

Sensor lights by the drive, side gate and back door come on as you arrive, and help you see who is there, without floodlighting the whole street.

  • Outdoor sockets

Weatherproof outdoor sockets on the patio, by the pond or at the end of the garden, for mowers, water features, festoon lights and the outdoor kitchen.

  • Smart controls

Timers, dusk sensors and smart controls you can use from your phone, with separate zones so you can light the patio without lighting the whole garden.

Lighting Schemes, Planned and Installed

Good garden lighting is planned with the garden, not added at the end. We design the lighting scheme, lay the cables before the paving and planting go in, and finish with lights that suit how you use the space.

  1. Plan the schemeWe walk the garden with you, look at it from the house and mark what to light: paths, steps, the seating area and a few features.
  2. Lay the cablesArmoured cable runs underground at a safe depth, ideally while the patio, deck or borders are being built.
  3. Fit the lightsWarm, weatherproof fittings, placed to light the ground and the features rather than the sky.
  4. Test and certifyThe electrical installation is carried out and tested by qualified electricians, with outdoor circuits protected as the wiring regulations require.
  5. Set the controlsTimers, sensors or smart controls, set up so the lights come on when you want them.

FAQ

Garden Lighting Questions from Buckinghamshire

Does garden lighting need to be certified?

It depends on the work. In England, a new circuit or a new consumer unit is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. An electrician registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify it, or building control has to inspect it. Adding to an existing circuit outdoors is not notifiable in England, but all electrical work in the garden must still meet the Building Regulations. See the Planning Portal guidance on electrics and Part P.

Which towns do you cover for garden lighting?

We design and install garden lighting in High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Amersham, Marlow, Chesham, Hazlemere, Great Missenden, Gerrards Cross, Chalfont St Peter and Chalfont St Giles, and the villages in between. Pick your town below for local advice.

How long does it take to install garden lighting in Buckinghamshire?

It depends on the size of the scheme, how far the cables run and whether the garden is being built at the same time. Once we have planned the scheme, your quote includes a timescale, so you know how long we will be on site.

Are your garden electrics installed by qualified electricians?

Yes. Every electrical installation is carried out and tested by qualified electricians, with outdoor circuits protected as the wiring regulations require.

Can I control my garden lights from my phone?

Yes. We can fit smart controls you use from your phone, as well as timers and dusk sensors, with separate zones for the patio, paths and features. See smart controls above.

Can you run power to a garden room or shed?

Yes. We run armoured cable underground to garden rooms, sheds and outbuildings, for lights, sockets and heating.

Will garden lighting bother the neighbours?

Not if it is planned well. Warm, low-level lights that point down and away from windows light your garden without spilling into theirs.

How much does garden lighting cost in Buckinghamshire?

It depends on the number of lights, how far the cables run and the controls you choose. We need to see the garden before we can give you a price, so we offer a free, no-obligation quote. Call 01494 812249 or use the form at the top of the page.
